The service

Media Walls — The Short Version.

A plain-English overview of what the DAB team delivers, who it's for and when it matters. No marketing filler.

What it is

A media wall is a purpose-built feature wall — usually in a living room, snug or master bedroom — that integrates a mounted TV, an electric fireplace, ambient lighting, sound bar concealment and cable management into a single plastered feature. Often finished in painted plaster, but Venetian, wood-panel and stone-slip finishes are also popular.

Who it's for

Homeowners tired of a jumble of TV, soundbar, console, cables and a dated brick fireplace, buyers of open-plan new-builds wanting a defined focal point, and renovation clients who want the living space to look designed rather than assembled.

When you need it

When you're painting or renovating the living room anyway, when you're upgrading to a larger wall-mounted TV, when you're removing an old fireplace or chimney breast, or when you're building a new-build shell and want the media wall integrated from first-fix rather than added later.

Why professional help matters

The reason DIY media walls look wrong is that six trades — carpenter, sparky, plasterer, tiler, decorator, AV — usually don't talk to each other. Coordinated as one job, the wall reads as a single considered feature rather than a scrappy add-on.

If it's left too long

What Goes Wrong When Nobody Fixes It.

The specific ways this job goes bad when it's ignored, DIY'd, or handed to the cheapest quote in the WhatsApp group.

Trailing cables and visible sockets

Wall-mounting a TV over a socket you never moved leaves the plug hanging in mid-air. First-fix electrics behind the wall are the fix — done at plaster stage, not after.

Overheating fireplaces

Electric fireplace inserts throw heat forward and up. Placed too close to a TV or without a proper heat baffle, they discolour surrounds, warp MDF and shorten TV lifespan. The right insert in the right recess is engineering, not just aesthetics.

Lit-from-one-side wash

LED strips fixed too close to the plaster, or in a badly-detailed shadow gap, create harsh dotting or one-sided wash. A proper channel with the right beam angle delivers the ambient effect people actually want.

Sagging shelves and cabinets

Floating shelves and cantilevered cabinets pull heavy loads out of the wall. Without proper timber pattress or steel brackets built into the stud at first fix, they either sag or pull the plaster out.

Our process

Five Steps. Zero Guesswork.

The exact system our team runs on every job — from your first message to the certificate in your handover pack.

  1. 1

    Design consultation

We meet on site, take the room dimensions, discuss the TV size, fireplace type, sound bar, and finish preference. A hand sketch or CAD elevation is produced showing shelf positions, LED lines, socket locations and finish.

  2. 2

    First-fix framing

Metal or timber stud framework built out from the existing wall, with structural noggins and pattress positions where the TV, fireplace and any shelves will be fixed. Cable ducting run for HDMI, power and network.

  3. 3

    Electrics and heat management

Our NICEIC electrician first-fixes all sockets (usually a double behind the TV, one behind the fireplace, one for each LED channel driver), HDMI conduit, and heat baffles above and below the fireplace recess.

  4. 4

    Board and plaster

Plasterboard hung, joints scrimmed and taped, angles beaded, LED shadow-gaps formed in the correct profile, and the whole wall skimmed to a paint-ready finish or prepped for Venetian plaster.

  5. 5

    Second-fix and commissioning

TV bracket fixed to pre-planned pattress, fireplace insert installed and commissioned, LED drivers connected and dimming tested, decoration completed, snag walked with you.

Why hire the DAB team

Specific Wins. Not Vague Promises.

What you actually get when you hire us for this job — measurable, provable, and reflected in every one of our verified reviews.

  • One coordinated feature, not five separate trades

Carpenter, electrician, plasterer, decorator and AV all under one contract. No trade-to-trade blame.

  • Cables and sockets truly hidden

First-fix electrics behind the framing mean no visible cabling — power, HDMI and network delivered exactly where the TV and fireplace need them.

  • Heat-safe fireplace installation

Proper recess sizing, heat baffles and clearance from the TV — meeting the fireplace manufacturer's spec, not just eyeballed.

  • Design finish options

Painted plaster, Venetian, wood-slat, stone-slip, microcement — any finish that can be applied to a boarded wall we can deliver.

  • Fixed price, one number

Everything — framing, electrics, fireplace, LEDs, plaster, decoration — quoted upfront as one figure. No surprises.

  • Fully insured team

£10M public liability, Part P electrical certificate on the electrical works, and our team's track record — 5.0 stars, 15 years' work.

Deep detail

Materials, Methods & Where It Applies.

The specification-level answers the internet usually skips.

Framing options

Metal stud (C-studs and U-tracks) for straight runs — fast, stable, doesn't twist. Timber stud (CLS at 400 or 600mm centres) where curved or shaped features are needed. Battened-off-wall build-ups where the existing wall is straight enough to save space.

Fireplace options

Electric linear inserts (Dimplex, Napoleon, Katell — 40, 50, 60, 72 inch widths) with heat-off / decorative-only modes. Bio-ethanol inserts for a real flame without a flue. Full HETAS-certified gas or log burners where a flue is available — installed by a Gas Safe engineer or HETAS-registered installer in our trusted network.

TV mounting

Standard fixed bracket, tilt bracket for above-fireplace placement, or full-motion articulating bracket for angled viewing. Pattress plywood built into the stud at 18mm to spread the load; VESA pattern confirmed to the TV model at quote stage.

Lighting

24V LED strip in aluminium extrusion with frosted diffuser for shadow-gap lighting; RGBW where colour-change is wanted; dim-to-warm strip for premium finishes; separately zoned drivers so the fireplace uplight and the shelf under-glow can dim independently.

Finishes

Standard: two-coat skim finished for eggshell or matt emulsion. Premium: Venetian plaster (see our Venetian & Polished Plaster service) for depth. Micro-cement for a seamless concrete look. Wood-slat cladding (typically 12–18mm American oak or European walnut) fixed to the framing before final finish.

FAQ

Media Walls — Straight Answers.

The questions we're asked at almost every survey. Not on the list? Call 07834 974462 — the DAB team is happy to talk it through.

How much does a media wall cost in Staines-upon-Thames?+

A standard painted media wall with 65-inch TV, electric fireplace and simple LED lighting typically £3,500–£5,500. Premium walls with Venetian plaster, larger fireplaces and premium AV £6,500–£12,000+. Fixed on written quote.

How long does it take?+

Most single-wall builds take 5–7 working days on site — 2 days framing and first-fix, 2 days plastering, 1 day drying, 1–2 days second-fix, commissioning and decoration.

Can you install my existing TV and fireplace?+

Yes — we're happy to build around client-supplied kit. Bring the model numbers and dimensions to the survey so we can size the recess and cable runs correctly.

Will the fireplace throw enough heat?+

Electric linear inserts typically output 1.5–2kW — enough to take the edge off a medium living room, not primary heating. Most clients use them decoratively 90% of the time and for warmth on the coldest evenings. Real gas or wood inserts, where flueable, deliver serious heat.

Can the wall project fully into the room?+

Yes — a full-depth build-out (up to 400mm) creates dramatic recesses and hidden storage. Alternatively a shallow batten-off wall keeps floor area intact. We show both options at design stage.

Do you handle the AV wiring itself?+

We first-fix the ducting and power. Full AV commissioning (speaker calibration, universal remote programming) is usually delegated to a specialist AV installer — often one you already work with — but we coordinate the schedule with them.

Can I have shelves and cabinets built in?+

Yes — floating shelves in oak, walnut or painted MDF, and closed cabinetry with soft-close hinges, all built into the wall as part of the same job.

Where do you work?+

Media walls across Staines-upon-Thames, Egham, Ashford, Chertsey, Sunbury-on-Thames, Weybridge, Windsor, Feltham and Kingston upon Thames.
